A False Narrative Image
Year: 2024
Medium: Acrylic and Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 24" x 36"
Our nervous system, like the cardiovascular system, innervates the entire body. Neurons relay touch (mechanosensory) information, but it’s the brain that processes and interprets it.
Out of body occurrences, referred sensations or phantom limb experiences all result in the brain misattributing sensory information. While we commonly attribute hallucinations to be visual, tactile hallucinations can also occur as our brain convolutes information.

The sensory nerves misaligned from the hand in this painting is a false narrative of why our sensations can be misleading.
