I AM SHE is a visual exploration of Black womanhood in the 21st century. Imani Shanklin Roberts created seven archetypal expressions of modern African American women, inspired by those she knows, media representations, and her own identity. Beyond oil and canvas, Roberts collaborated with set designer, Alicia Delarge, to create charging stations, transforming the exhibition into an immersive experience where audiences could engage with and care for each representation through written offerings of love and support.
